Ulrich Fiedeler

Studied Physics and Philosophy at the University of Hamburg, 1998 diploma, 2001 dissertation on new compound semiconductors for solar cell applications at Hahn-Meitner-Institut/Freie Universität Berlin. From 2003 to 2007 he was part of the nanotechnology group at the Institute of Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis, Karlsruhe (ITAS). He was involved in the EU NanoRoad SME project and especially responsible for literature survey and patent analysis on nanomaterials. In 2006 he led the project on “The Role of Nanotechnology in Chemical Substitution”, which was one of the TA projects for the Scientific Technology Option Assessment (STOA) – Panel of the EU Parliament. In 2007 he worked on neural implants within the framework of the “Nanotechnologie und Gesundheit – Technische Optionen, Risikobewertung und Vorsorgestrategien” (NanoHealth) project, which aims at the technology assessment of nanotechnology with a focus on neural implants and the health risks of nanoparticles. Since October 2007 he has been research assistant at the ITA, working in the NanoTrust project.
